4 Player Chess
Four armies on a cross-shaped board, free-for-all or in teams.
Four-player chess puts four armies on a plus-shaped board and adds the one thing standard chess cannot have: diplomacy. In free-for-all, the strongest player is everyone's problem, and temporary alliances decide games as often as tactics do.

4 Player Chess rules
- 01
The board is a 14x14 square with the corners removed, giving a cross shape. Each player occupies one arm.
- 02
Turn order runs clockwise: red, blue, yellow, green.
- 03
Pieces move exactly as in standard chess; pawns move toward the centre and promote on the eighth rank from their own start.
- 04
In Teams mode, players sitting opposite each other are partners and win together.
- 05
In Free-for-All, captures score points (pawn 1, knight/bishop 3, rook 5, queen 9) and the highest score wins if the game ends before a single survivor remains.
- 06
A checkmated player's pieces are removed or frozen depending on the mode.
How it changes your play
Attacking is expensive. Whoever trades pieces with a neighbour usually hands the game to the two players who stayed quiet.
In Free-for-All, points reward opportunism: capturing pieces from a player who is already collapsing is worth more than a principled positional game.
